Richard Durbin, D-Ill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opposition To Credit Card Routing Legislation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis \u2018big box bill\u2019 is just another way for large merchants to squeeze more out of the American consumers\u2019 pockets by disrupting payment systems that consumers want in place, leaving them vulnerable,\u201d said Nussle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"ca-widget\" data-token=\"db374bac7cf4\"><\/div><script async defer src=\"https:\/\/secure.money.com\/embeds\/embedder.js?v=1\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>Survey data shows that consumers overwhelmingly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cuna.org\/content\/dam\/cuna\/advocacy\/priorities\/documents\/Interchange-One-Pager.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">value security and credit card availability<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is reprehensible that at a time when hard-working Americans are already feeling the financial pinch from inflation, big box bullies are pushing for financial breaks that would risk both the data security and access to credit for consumers and small business owners. This bill would allow these large merchants to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valuewalk.com\/avoid-credit-card-interest\/\">cheapest credit card processing option<\/a>, with no requirement to keep consumers\u2019 data safe or return savings back to them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInterchange is the cost of doing business,\u201d points out Nussle. \u201cMerchants like Target and Walmart reap the benefits of credit card usage with immediate payments, protection from fraud, and typically larger purchases by consumers \u2013 but don\u2019t want to pay the cost of accepting credit cards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe debit card interchange limitations that Senator Durbin slipped into the Dodd-Frank Act in 2010 did not result in any consumer cost savings. Since that time, credit card fraud rates have doubled. Why would we expect a different result from this legislation? We are going to see retailers lining their pockets with money without reducing prices, leaving consumers and small business owners in the lurch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe pushed back to stop this legislation last session, and we will do it again.
